Today was the day that we bundled up, ventured out the closest farm, & picked out our very own Christmas tree! After much discussion, & quite a bit of walking back & forth across the farm, we managed to settle on a fancy little Norfolk Island Pine for a fine price. We decided to buy this one because it seemed that in our area there weren’t many options for evergreens that could last inside for more than a few days, then be planted outside. It seemed like it was all or nothing, so we went for all. We bought the newest year round addiction to our home, Douglas. He will grow with us through the years as a nice indoor plant (we are hoping, anyway. Neither Ryan or I have much luck with plants. I’m going to blame it on our cats who have quite a distaste for plants…or perhaps they have too much of a taste for plants — the greens always get munched up).

Anyway, we’re hoping that in the future we will be able to stick to our original plan to buy an outdoor tree, roots & all, bring it inside just for the holiday then back outside for planting. And keep Douglas just as another “pet” since he’ll be inside with us year round anyway. If you like our idea or need some more green in your home, you can purchase your own Norfolk Pine of any shape or size. Prices at Skillins Farm in Falmouth start at just $2.oo!
