Today was the day! Ryan & I took our long awaited journey up the street & around the corner to The Green Hand bookstore/The International Cryptozoology Museum located at 661 Congress Street right here in Portland, Maine. It was such a neat place! We were, however, pretty disappointed that the museum was closed today, but now we know not to show up on a Monday or Tuesday & we’ll reschedule the museum trip for next time.
The hybrid book store/cryptozoology museum is such a perfect combination for anyone interested in the strange & mysterious. Book titles range from How To Grow Giant Vegetables by Bernard Lavery to The Trail of the Abominable Snowman by Gardener Soule in stacks squished together by owl bookends. The best part, though — we were greeted by our friend Bigfoot.
And there’s no lack of other neat little gadgets & findings near the counter in the bookshop portion of the place. I fell in love with these Bigfoot print throw pillows, & thought the idea of having a bigfoot keychain instead of a rabbit’s foot keychain was a fantastically vegetarian way to gain luck (Click photo to see all).
And for those who love to collect simple, but different art, this poster is an example of one style you’ll find abundant in the gift area of the store.
The hours are as follows:
Green Hand – (Closed Mondays)

Sunday Noon – 5 pm
Museum — (Closed Monday & Tuesday)
Wednesday – Saturday 11 am – 6 pm

So plan a trip & give it a visit! What are you waiting for?
