Saturday mornings mean the most jovial farmer’s market of the week! It seems we always bump into one person or another that we work with, met through a friend, or met somewhere else along the way. It’s such a grand festival for the commencement of the week’s end. And, this weekend, there were some seriously pleasant surprises…
FRUIT, FRUIT, and more FRUIT! We have waited for so long! We are fruit people (we are fruits). Before undertaking this locavore diet, Ryan and I would fill our shopping cart nearly half way with fruits of all sorts…and it has really been killing us not to have fruit available as we dash out the door late, or as an after dinner treat. But today, we were given the option of buying so many melons (we chose a cantaloupe over watermelon), peaches, and the regular bevy of berries that stream in from farms around the state. My goodness, we were so happy.
Monday or Wednesday you can be sure we’ll be sampling those watermelons and peaches, but until then, we must work on gobbling up this cantaloupe!
We also bought a new kind of bread, not the most local of ingredients, but a truly delicious cinnamon swirl. Ryan declared that it tastes like donuts which made me think that this is most likely not the best local choice, but we do so like buying our bread from the farmer’s market because it means fewer trips to the grocery store for Borealis bread (which is the most local to our area). For breakfast I had two pieces of cinnamon swirl toast (Ryan was right, this passed the taste test), for lunch was a veggie soup that Ryan made last night with just about everything but the kitchen sink. And for dinner I just used up two more pieces of our new bread for an egg sandwich (I do so love breakfast for dinner — I think it’s because I always get up so late that I miss breakfast).
Can’t wait to see what tomorrow brings!
