Ryan recently enlightened me to the world of Horror Surf music with the viewing of the hideously lame, yet hysterical, film “Psycho Beach Party” and I have to say, I am quite in love. There’s something so satisfying about sitting down to a B-horror film with a snack, or letting it roll in the background while you putz around with something else. And the little fashionista inside of me was quite taken by the costuming and colours in the film. Someone did a lot of thrifting for this movie before filming began!

Here’s a little clip for you to view, just so you can really appreciate the cheesiness I’m talking about here before I send you on to the rest of the post:

So today when I returned from my short shift at work, and settled down on the couch with a cat in my lap to work on some Etsy-bound stitchings, the first thing that came to mind was that I’d really enjoy a listen or two to some serious horror surf. But since I’m relatively new to the genre, you won’t find it surprising to hear that when I flipped up my computer to search for our favourite band in the genre — Messer Chups –, I couldn’t recall the name at all.

I was typing things into google like “muffer chaps” and “mullin cheffs” and “moppin chimps”. It was both amusing and frustrating, and while having a nice chuckle, I probed my brain harder to recall the band’s name. Eventually I gave up and called Ryan.
I guess the moral of the story is; One day I’ll have a photographic memory. Until then I’ll put on my 1960s swimsuit and do that silly scuba dance thing that girls always did back then. Watch the movie if you have nothing better to do (and I mean that), but definitely give the music a try.
