Oh, this is such a charming old film!
It’s a snapshot of a world that my generation knows nothing of; World War 2 era Washington D.C. The humour is certainly different from what we see in movies today. It’s simpler, but so chuckle-worthy. All of the characters felt a supreme responsibility to their country and countrymen, and each did their part respectively.
For Miss Connie Milligan, her duty was to open up her flat to share during a city-wide housing crisis. As you can imagine, our nation’s capital was a pretty hopping place at this point in time and she had previously been living in a two bedroom apartment all by herself.
But when she takes in a wily Mr. Benjamin Dingle (by the way, he won an Oscar for this part), everything spins out of control. Pretty soon she’s not even sure how many people are living under her roof, and some of them are men! What will the neighbors think?! Don’t worry, though, as is typical of a movie from this time period there is a happy ending (ie. a wedding), and all is well with the world — you know, other than that pesky war.

I saw this film several months ago on the shelves at VideoPort and it just begged me to pick it up. I had never heard of it before, and I hadn’t had it recommended, so I ignored it that night. But for months every time I went in to browse it was there staring me in the face! I have a big long list of movies I want to see, so if I don’t go in with something specific in mind, I’ll pick something from my ever-growing list. But week after week it just looked out at me from those shelves, and finally I decided to rent it thinking that I’d just have to make Ryan suffer through.
Surprisingly, he loved it (and so did I). The next week we went he told me that it had been so romantic to sit down and watch a classic together instead of our usual ’80s thriller, so he asked me to pick out another. I thought I’d go with Breakfast At Tiffany’s. Seems safe enough, right?
He fell asleep.
So, I guess as far as a typical guy is concerned, The More The Merrier is better than Breakfast At Tiffany’s. There’s your review, now go pick it up
