I can’t think of anything more autumnal than a blazer with elbow patches.
And you know how I love to squeeze the marrow out of every season. So, before fall disappeared from us for another year, I thought I ought to hop on the elbow-patch-adding bandwagon. Elsie’s got some super cute ones, and I just saw this little tutorial floating around Pinterest. This weekend I’m going to add some to Ryan’s TopMan sweater, too!
This project also worked out really well for me because I have a ridiculously hard time throwing anything away. If it can’t be recycled, donated, or swapped, I hang on to things I don’t want anymore until a new use becomes apparent. Enter: the winter boots I used several years ago, that finally surrendered to our snowy New England winters.
I’m so glad to have thought of something productive to do with these puppies. Now I’ll be adding elbow patches to anything I see fit — watch out, friends!
I love this method of spicing up layers. It’s really fun and super easy to do. Plus, I got to upcycle my boots into something that I’ll be able to wear for a very long time.
If anyone wants to add some elbow pads to their garments, I’d be happy to help — I have plenty of faux suede still hanging around!
What do you think? We could make professor chic a thing, right?

Hey, you should stop by my blog and check out my elbow patches tutorial too
This tutorial is so timely for me! I got this awesome floor length red (buffalo-ish) plaid skirt at Find and I’m just not convinced that the long skirt look works on me. Since I’m going home for Thanksgiving, I’m taking the skirt with me so that I can take advantage of my mom’s awesome hemming skills and make it at least knee length. I was thinking I’d make an obi belt to wear with some of my black dresses (I have many) but I was also thinking about elbow patches as well since I’m going to have a LOT of material to work with.
Now I just have to pick the blazer I want to patch!
Yay, that is so much fun! I tried on a long red plaid skirt at Find a couple of weeks ago. I wonder if it’s the same one! I wasn’t pleased with how it fit me, so I’m glad it found a happy home.
Plaid elbow pads are such an amazing concept! I don’t know why I didn’t think of that — good going! You’ll have to share pictures somehow when you’re done

I bet it was the same one! I tried it on like a month ago and didn’t get it b/c I don’t really dress up a lot and try to tailor my wardrobe to fit my actual needs rather than just buying things I’m not going to have an occasion to wear. But I kept thinking about it and when I saw that it was still there I decided it was meant to be.
Sometimes you have to go back for it to know that you really want it that much
