Snapshots from our week:

| highlights |

Oh, this week. On Monday Ryan + I sat down with our boss to give her our notice before we hopped in the car and headed to New Hampshire for my first job interview. It was so bittersweet. We love our boss {Hi, Katrina!}. She’s just the right mix of friendly, personable, and professional, and we will sadly depart from being her employees at some point very soon. Thankfully, she completely understood our reasons for leaving. She said she pictures us in the woods and knows we’ll make a happy little life for ourselves there better than we could in this {albeit, small} city.

On Tuesday, we gave our notice with the landlord. We’ve been dreaming of leaving for awhile now, but after talking to both our employer and our housing manager, things have really been set into motion. Scary as it is, it’s still exciting. And a little of Ryan’s latest batch of beer may have helped to settle us down from all of our mad planning one night this week. Yum!

Details for my shop reopening are already coming together! I am so torn as to whether I should share with you each and every little bit, or if I should save them for when I’m actually open again! I guess there may be a hint or two in every couple of entries, but I’ll try not to give too much away before the right time comes. This week I’ve been working on the freebies I’ll pack into each sold order, and the brand new business card that I designed. The packaging design is nearly almost finished, and I can’t wait to cross the last pieces off of my “Before Closing Up Shop” to-do list.

Speaking of closing the shop, tomorrow is the very last day that I’ll be open with my current inventory! If there’s anything you like in the shop now, it’s still mostly 50% off, but it’ll be gone for good on Sunday, so it’s now or never.

April is just one day away!

It most certainly is!

I’ve been dreaming + scheming over furniture arrangements lately, but if you’ve seen any of my home tour posts {or if you’ve ever been to my home}, you may notice that the above floor plan is not for our current apartment. Curious, no? Here’s why:

Yes! We are! We’ve talked to our landlord, to our friends, and our boss, and I just couldn’t keep you in the dark any longer! Ryan + I are planning a move back to our native New Hampshire, hopefully by May 1st! Now, this is just a tentative floor plan seeing as we may not actually get this apartment,  however the location, the price, and the size of it are all right, so we’ve sent our application along.

As for jobs, we’re applying in all sorts of fields. This is a chance for us to redefine our lives in so many ways, and we’d love it if the area to which we are moving helped to do some of that for us so we can become an appropriate reflection of the beautiful place we’ll be living. I’m so excited to be near my best friend, Ryan’s best friend, and my family. I’ll get to be around more often to see my little niece + nephew gain their years, and to enjoy the simple joys of the lakes and the mountains again. More on this as it develops!

Have a fantastic night!

Tea for three, and three for tea.

This afternoon we had our friend Marsha over for a bit of a tea party. One is never too old or too busy for a little tea, I’d say. We sipped while we chatted and stayed out of the cold { it’s been snowing in tiny spurts today! }.

This week’s flower of choice: the tulip. Thanks for picking the prettiest bunch of them all, Ryan. Having fresh blooms inside always improves my mood as we patiently wait for the real spring to arrive and flowers go so nicely with tea, too, I would say.

Don’t you love this 1950s edition of Peter Pan? I thrifted it the other day from Goodwill and thought it fit quite nicely into our tablescape for this tea party. A bit of whimsy is never really out of place, is it?

We’re mid-week now, friends, so you’ve made it over the hump. If you need a little pick-you-up, might I suggest planning some time with friends and hot drinks and good music? It always makes me feel entirely refreshed.

Hang in there!

There’s an opportunity for inspiration in every little corner of the world.

Yes, even in the pantry. I’ve seen so many pretty little kitchen pantries via this wonderful internet of ours, that I wanted to share some of our own containers. To me, when things are organized and decorative, they’re easier to enjoy. I’m not really one for cooking or baking, so if I’m ever going to be in the kitchen I’ve got to have something in there that makes it worthwhile before the food is ready to be eaten.

We buy in bulk to keep our grocery bills low and to minimize consumption of packaging, so these large glass jars are the perfect solution to our storage woes. It doesn’t take long to wrap a little twine or yarn around a large jar, or to put some strategically placed little dashes on it with indelible ink, yet once those little tasks are performed your sundries will have a whole new aesthetic.

Labeling jars could be quite fun, too, when using your artsy-fartsy right brain and whatever little scraps of fabric or crafty stuff you have laying around, and spring is the best time for cleaning and organizing!

Have fun with your spring cleaning!

I feel like I’m missing you lately, blog.

My days are packed with sewing, planning, writing, working, and trying to keep up with a normal life. I’ve been selling shop items, packing them up, and shipping them off into the world, and with all of that I haven’t been keeping up with writing as much as I am used to. I promise that things will get themselves sorted out within the next couple of months {it’s good stuff that’s going on, don’t worry!}, and that I’ll keep up as best as I can until then.

But, if you’re hoping for some little snip-its of my reality, you’re always welcome to follow me on Instagram. I have been trying to take more photos recently so I can capture the little moments and the details that otherwise may be looked past and forgotten. You can search for me as @juliastrawberry and get updates on my life through there. I hope your week has started off fantastically, and that I get to hear from you all soon!

Happy Monday!

I’m closing up my Etsy shop in just one week…

and so many of my charming little pieces still haven’t found homes! Today I thought I’d take a moment to show off my favourite listings: my vintage aprons. Now, I wouldn’t be totally upset if no one bought these babies and I got to keep them all for myself, but let’s face it, I don’t really need more than one beautiful apron as much as I am tempted to keep them, and our apartment is much fuller than we’d like it to be. So, if you’d like them they’re all yours {+ they’re on sale}!

Each of these was hand selected by me because of their charming qualities. They were each handmade decades ago by someone with a very steady hand and fancy style. For more details about the aprons just click on the corresponding photo below and you’ll be whisked away to the appropriate Etsy listing. Last night I sold 5 items in my shop, so make sure you don’t wait too long before making your move!

Here’s hoping they get to travel the globe! These past few months must have been pretty boring, just sitting on my shelf. Spring + summer are excellent times to host gatherings and these light colours will make an beautiful match for garden parties + cocktail hours.

Hope you’re all well!

Our week in snapshots:

| highlights |

This week did not feel real! The weather has been unbelievable. Sure, New England is known for its weather mood swings, but 85 degrees in March? That’s unheard of. Ryan + I stayed with his parents on Tuesday night and we just couldn’t bring ourselves to sit inside. I swear the whole visit took place on their back porch — it was ideal. We opened the windows, put on our bare feet, + yesterday I had my very first iced coffee of the year.

On Monday night I happened to be browsing around a favourite thrift store when I bumped into a couple-friend of ours. Kate + Justin were looking for furniture for their new apartment and I happened to spot the most amazing mid-century danish hutch. It had me drooling the moment I set eyes on it, and the sellers mis-priced it so it was an absolute steal! I convinced our friends to take it home with them {peer pressure! peer pressure!} and I was only a little jealous as they checked out on their way home.

I was shopping downtown {at another thrift store, ha!} and the owner asked about my bow ties! She had seen me posting about them on facebook and such, and she asked if I’d be interested in selling them in her shop! I’m definitely into that idea, so I’ve been working on them with not just my Etsy shop and the Merchant Company in mind — it’s been a good week.

Last Saturday I mentioned that I’ll be re-doing my Etsy shop! It’s half-price right now, and plans are coming together for the grand re-opening on May 1st. I worked on my shipping packaging this week. The winners of my birthday giveaway will be the guinea pigs as far as that goes. Let me know what you think when your packages arrive next week, winners!

Enjoy your weekend!

I’m in the mood for a pop of colour!

So, I whipped up this lively desktop image. Of course, there’s no use keeping it to myself so you’re welcome to download it and use it as your own wallpaper during these first few moments of spring. My desktop has a tendency to become incredibly messy so every so often I need to pick a pretty new wallpaper that will inspire me to clean up a bit. I hope you love this as much as I do!

You’re all that + a cup of tea, my dears.

Here’s an idea: a clipboard turned chalkboard!

Sometimes I need to jot a little note to my honey accompanying the grocery list or some similar document. I decided to paint a clipboard with chalkboard paint the other day so we can quickly and easily communicate on our busiest days. Voila! A message board complete with a clip to hold things in place!

One of my resolutions for Valentine’s Day was to write Ryan more love notes throughout the year, and this will be a fun way to do so. We both work long shifts over the weekend, and it sometimes feels like we only briefly bump into each other from Friday to Monday, so with a little clipboard like this we can remind one another to pay bills, pick something up at the market, or return our movies even if we don’t see each other! Here’s how to make one for your home:

You’ll need to fasten back the clip { or disassemble it } so the paint underneath has time to dry. I used a thick twine to keep it in place, but a lot of things could work. Just make sure that whatever you use is sturdy enough to hold for two days and you’ll be set! I purchased this twine at the hardware store, the clipboard is thrifted from Goodwill and the chalkboard paint is from The Merchant Company here in Portland.

I painted three coats on, letting each one dry for at least an hour in between. Every paint will most likely have slightly different directions, so I’d make sure to read them before starting just in case they differ from the instructions mine gave.

Waiting for it to be completely dry is definitely the hardest part. I was so eager to get this puppy up and start using it today! I can’t wait to see how we’ll use it in the future. It has so much possibility. I’d love to see what you come up with if you should decide to give the project a try yourself! There are so many different colours available in chalkboard paint these days, and there are even instructions online of how you can make it yourself!

Have so much fun!

xx.
