If I could enter my own contest, I would.

This is my first big giveaway and I couldn’t be more excited about the prize! Shabby Apple has the most amazing vintage inspired pieces with which I would love to fill my closet. They also donate a portion of their sales to assist women in need worldwide so it’s a great company to support! I’ve picked out some of my favourites here, but please visit the site to see what else they have! From dresses, to swimwear, to accessories + home decor, there is so much to choose from!I love how nearly everything for sale on Shabby Apple is work appropriate! With longer hem lines and higher necklines they’ll work for so many occasions without sacrificing style. These are basically my dream clothes! And check out this peter pan collar/beehive combination. Perfect.

To enter, you’ll need to “like” Shabby Apple on facebook, and leave a comment here on this blog post saying what your favourite item is on their website. Then make sure you’re subscribed to my blog so you’ll know if you won! I’ll be accepting entries until Saturday night at 10 pm, and announcing the winner at some point next week. You must have a U.S. shipping address to win, but if you live out of the country and there’s someone here who wouldn’t mind receiving your package, feel free to enter!

Don’t be discouraged if you aren’t lucky, though, because Shabby Apple is so generous that they didn’t want to leave anyone out! Even if you don’t win, you can enter “jeezejulia10off” as a coupon code at the checkout to receive 10% off of your purchases for a month! Quick – the clock is ticking!

Good luck!

xx.

UPDATE: I’m no longer accepting entries for this giveaway. Any comments left on this entry after 10 pm Saturday, June 2nd will not be counted. Sorry! Find out who won by clicking here!

Our week in snapshots:

| highlights |

We can finally smell the first sweet breezes of summer! Although today is a bit dreary, the last week or so has for the most part been gorgeous. Ryan + I have started running again, and are really excited to explore some of the woodland trails that snake between a quiet stream and some rusty old railroad tracks just outside of town. I love running under bright green leaves, and it’s even better when there’s clean, clear water running next to us.

Our radishes have sprouted up so quickly! And our peas are not far behind. It feels like we’ll be eating from our garden sooner than we had thought. All of this rain sure has been great for one thing – waking the Earth up from its long winter slumber. With our ingredients sorting themselves out as I type, Ryan + I are getting more excited for the debut of our cooking blog in June! It’ll be a seasonal-ish vegetarian recipe blog using as much of our own garden as is possible. We’ve done locavore summers twice {2010, 2011} and will still be eating mostly within New England, but our focus is going to be sharing some of our favourite foods with you! I’ll keep you updated as things progress.

Oh, yes! I’ve also made my first shop sales! The very first came in the week I reopened, but since then I’ve had three more – two of which were orders including multiple listings! I’ve got high hopes for this shop of mine. I’m also really excited this week because I’ll be hosting a giveaway for Shabby Apple right here on the blog! Incredible, no? You may want to head to their website now to find your favourite things, then make sure you’re here on Tuesday to officially enter the contest! I’d hate for you to miss out on this – they have such cute stuff {and, they donate a portion of their profit to help women worldwide}!

Good day, my dears!

Scurry on over to my Etsy shop now!

The doors have just opened and you could get some very fun freebies if you’re one of the first five purchases! Plus, if you’re a fan on facebook and live in the U.S. or Canada you’ll get your shipping reimbursed – just tell me in the “message to seller”! I do also ship internationally, so don’t let that stop you if you live outside of the country!

All of my products are eco-friendly, using vintage and second-hand materials, or new organic ones. I have purchased all of my supplies as close to home as possible, and have supported other small local businesses while doing so. I’ll share more details about my supplies soon, just know that you can feel good about this purchase!

Don’t miss out!

Countdown ’til shop reopening: 1 day!

I love offering freebies! So I’m happy to announce all of the cool stuff that you’ll get in your package if you decide to buy something from my shop. These first few items are the things that every purchase will come with, and if you continue to scroll down you’ll see what you could get for free if you are one of the first five sales after my shop reopens tomorrow! Every buyer can expect:

The discount is so when you come back again, you’ll be rewarded for continuing to support my shop. The snapshots are mostly photos that I’ve taken, but there are a couple of my family members in the ’30s, ’40s, and ’50s that might be included in your package! As for the music, I love sharing the songs that Ryan writes, so I’ll send a link to you if you support my shop, and you’ll be able to download a pretty little ukulele or a soft guitar song. I’ll be making an announcement here on the blog, on twitter, and on facebook the second my shop doors open, so keep your eyes peeled tomorrow for the shop reopening! Here’s what you’ll get if you’re one of the first five sales:

Plenty to look forward to, huh? What a happy little package these would make. I can’t wait to start sending them out. Less than 24 hours until I’ll be able to!

See you then!

The long awaited spring swap is now approaching!

SWAPmaine recently announced the date and location for the next city wide clothing swap! June 10th is the big day and Portland Flea for All is where it will all go down. That means if you’re in New England it’s about time for you to sort through your closets and pull out all of those pieces you never wear. You can swap them with the items that other people bring and go home with a brand new wardrobe for free. Here’s what I found at the first SWAPmaine, and also at the second. Excited? I thought you would be.

Keep an eye on their website for more info!

A little while ago, I offered up one of my favourite of Ryan’s songs for free download.

Well, below are four more. He’s uploaded these to his bandcamp and is giving his music away for free! This guy is all about spreading the music, not making the money (as our bank account will tell you). So there you go! Add these songs + Johnny Appleseed to your autumn playlists!

While we’re on the subject of music, did you notice that photo above? It’s part of the playlist for our annual Harvestfest dinner party, part one of which will be held tomorrow. Usually, it’s a huge event for us. We invite all of our Portland friends and everyone brings something to share. We’ll do the large party later in the season, but I’m starting off with a tiny little practice run so that I can get great photos and details to share in a guest post that I’m doing for an international blog!

I’ll fill you in on the details when the post goes live around the 15th, but tomorrow I’ll be busy executing my plans! On Tuesday I hope to bring you a really exciting photo filled post about the amazing thrifting trip I took yesterday with my friend Chelsea. We got so many great pieces and I’m just dying to share them with you!

To sum up; I’m busy lately and you should download these free mp3s.

Have a lovely night!

xx.

Happy Saturday, my dears!

I’m really excited to let you know that you can win this apron by visiting Rachel Denbow’s blog and entering her contest. She’ll be accepting entries until Sunday. All you have to do is visit her blog (peek around a bit, you won’t regret it!) and leave a comment on the September Sponsor Giveaway entry about your favourite handmade gift that you’ve made!

Also up for grabs is a fun little Misha LuLu / Hello Kitty jumper! Super adorable for anyone with daughters, nieces, or friends with little ladies! Why not enter?

I love, love, love Rachel’s blog so much. It’s probably my favourite little corner of the internet. If you’re anything like me, I’m sure you’ll love it, too. While you’re there trying to snag my apron for free, check out all of her fantastic DIYs, her impeccable eye for design, and her adorable children. She even teaches online courses!

Now go enter the contest!

xx.

P.s. If you don’t win her contest, you can also contact me and I’d be happy to make one for you in my Etsy shop. But, definitely try to win it first because that way it’ll be free!

In honor of the first day of fall, I’d like to present you with my very first giveaway!

A lot of the blogs I follow have frequent giveaways where one lucky commenter (in about 200) will get a bag or something. It’s great! I love getting free things! But I comment on just about every single one, and I’ve never actually been the lucky winner. So, I wanted to have a giveaway on my blog where everyone wins.

| If you’re reading this right now, you have won a lovely free download |

My darling writes the most beautiful music. He’s been writing a lot lately and has just started up his own BandCamp. Download a pretty little autumn song for free by clicking this link, then have a look at his page later if you like what you hear. There’s nothing uploaded to his site just yet, but if you check back next week there should be some great songs for you (maybe even with backing vocals by me)!

It’s my way of saying thanks :)

Enjoy, friends! And happy autumn!

xx.  julia
