Happy Christmas!

This is what we have been up to lately. We’re spending time with friends, getting silly to Ryan + Rob’s songs, and wearing Santa suits. Every year I enjoy watching the process of the Rugg Brother Christmas song. If you missed their videosongs from 2010 and 2011 you can see them by clicking those links (It’s Christmas Again is my favourite so far, but all are very silly indeed!). I hope you are all settling in for a wonderful holiday and that these boys bring you a little joy!

Hope you’re well!

Here are some songs to hum while you walk amongst the leaves.

Some people here are saying that we’re nearly at peak-foliage. I say there’s still a whole lot of green in some places, but it won’t be long until the trees are utterly breathtaking {they’re certainly well on their way}, and the leaf-peepers are beginning to infiltrate us. Fall is Atlas‘s favourite season. He is ever-perplexed by the leaves blowing around in the air and spends hours on the windowsill flicking his head back and forth to focus on each yellow, red, or orange blur that he can. I find myself looking at his wonderment and smiling at the simplicity of his world.

I hope your day is full of simple joys, too.

In time for Fall,

my dearest Ryan presents Poor Planets – the first album from his project Weird Words. This is the first full compilation he’s offered in years and his first concept album ever. I wish I could turn the volume up higher than it goes. I’d love for you to have a listen at his bandcamp page, and if you like what you hear you could “like” his fanpage on facebook, or spread the good word of Weird Words to those you think would appreciate it. And, if you really like it, you could even download the album for only $5. This will be particularly perfect music for the falling of the leaves, but you might as well get to know it now before it’s too late. I think I like “Where’d he go/There he is” and “Illusion of space” the best.

Which song is your favourite?

We’re nearing the end of the summer,

but I’m not ready to give it up just yet! Here’s a playlist for this last beautiful month or so of fresh air and full sun! It’s time to dig out that summer to-do list and make sure you’ve crossed everything off. Before long we’ll be layering sweaters and scarves and baking pumpkin pies! Yesterday at the store Ryan + I saw a huge crate of local apples…soon it begins!

Enjoy the last of our summer before it disappears!

What if the Beatles never broke up?

We’d have more of their music to wonder about, for one. And, two, we’d probably have even more conspiracy theory than we already do. Although, it seems like the Beatles don’t really need to do or say much and still people will come up with wild ideas about the truth of the band. I’m sure you’ve heard the Paul is dead theory, right? The other day we learned a new one – that there’s an alternate universe in which the Beatles never broke up.

The story is, some guy actually falls down a rabbit hole and is transported to an alternate dimension where someone finds him and starts to nurse him back to health. While in this new person’s home, he happens to see a tape labeled “The Beatles – Everyday Chemistry”. Being a fan, our hero realized that the fab four never actually released an album by this title… in this dimension {dun, dun, DUN!}.

So anyway, he steals it and somehow finds his way back to our world, tape in hand. Knowing no one would believe him, he rips the tape to digital form and shares it on the internet. Have a listen for yourself here. The songs themselves are pretty good, albeit, they seem to be just mashups of the solo stuff that came from each Beatle after they really did break up. The argument, I guess, is that if they were in a similar dimension they would have had similar ideas including lyrics, tunes, and song ideas. But, I suppose this is the closest thing we can get to new Beatles songs now, so I’ll take what I can get.

Happy Beatlemania!

You can and you will.

I’ve been listening to this song all morning {because I love it}, but still I believe that I can and I will. I love the attitude that our generation has – we’re inspired and we refuse to believe that we have to conform. True, it’s tiring, it’s stressful, it’s exhausting. Sometimes I get worn out, too. But we can use all of this action and ambition to our advantage and keep pushing one another to try harder and work harder. We’ll make our dreams our lives. We got this. We can and we will.

Today is for Hall + Oates…

…sun tea, updating the bedroom to feel a little more like us, throwing the windows open, and peanut butter, honey, + blueberry sandwiches. Don’t you just love days off in the summer? Now if only we could be at Camp swimming + reading in the sun. Maybe tomorrow.

I hope you’re staying cool today!

Although I love making all sorts of themed playlists,

SUMMER is my favourite theme of all. Sometimes I start my summer playlists in December, sometimes in the preceding September, I almost always have one that I’m working on for the next warm season. Summer is for upbeat, sunny songs that can bounce out of the speakers while one drives around with the sweet air swirling in the car and all around them. A soundtrack for summer is one of the best ways to capture the magic of beaches, bare feet, and bonfires, because each little moment gets caught up in the familiar songs by the end of August and will forever be reminiscent of that time. This is the new playlist I’ve made up for this year!

Now go have fun!

xx.

P.s. This summer might be so good that it needs two playlists.

Just a quick note today.

I’ve been loving this song quite awhile now, but I think somewhere along the line I forgot that I wanted to share the video with you. I don’t watch a lot of videos these days, but this one is so beautifully shot, and I find that it really provokes within me a sense of belonging and inspiration. I hope it does the very same for you. ♥ Enjoy:

explore. see. Be a part of it.

xx.

P.s. Might I suggest you watch it in full screen?
