Check out my post on the Goodwill Industries International blog!

Goodwill International asked me to write a blog post for them about hosting a fall themed dinner party with nearly everything thrifted from their Goodwill stores. It was such a dream come true! My two favourite things are thrifting + blogging, so to do that for a company so wonderful as Goodwill was ideal.

Have a look at the post to see what I came up with! I have photos of the first installment of Harvestfest that Ryan + I hosted, as well as more information on the DIY tutorial above! You can also find out how to make your own fall themed bunting. It’ll be perfect for any dinner party that you’ll be hosting soon, especially Thanksgiving!

If you found my blog through my Goodwill International post, then welcome! I’m so happy to have you here. If you like what you see, please don’t hesitate to subscribe! We’ll have so much fun together :)

Enjoy your Sunday, friends!

xx.

I mentioned quite some time ago, that my friend Erin opened her own Etsy shop, but I don’t believe I ever went into any details about it.

But, a few weeks ago, she oh-so-generously mailed me a big box of fabrics that she wasn’t going to use! I simply had to say something more about her truly friendly threads in response. I’ve already listed an apron that was in the box, and used some of the gold fabric above to make this heart pillow!

I really still can’t believe how generous this was of her. Please make sure you check out her shop and her blog. She’s a real sewing wizard, and deserves some faithful followers. Feel free to tell her I sent you!

Oh, also! She does tutorials on her blog for beginning sewers. So helpful.

She really is a wealth of knowledge.

Say, who’s that all the way down there in the right hand corner?

That’s right, it’s me!

This month I am so happy to be able to sponsor Rachel Denbow’s blog Smile + Wave! She’s my absolute favourite blogger because she gracefully balances her life as a Momma, a vintage collector, a seamstress, an online instructor, among many other titles. She seems to be able to do anything!

Please head over and check out her blog! Also, don’t skip the other sponsors! We’re the ones on the right hand side that read daily and cheer Rachel on. And my goodness, it’s a good crowd over there. I’m so excited to see my little blog among the ranks of A Beautiful Mess, Bleubird Vintage, and Skunkboy Creatures! Amazing.

I also totally gushed when I noticed that I’m directly next to Ruche! I’ve been a huge fan of theirs for awhile now since they offer options that are eco-friendly and from independent designers!

Needless to say, once I saw my sponsor ad on her page, I was automatically in a great mood, but then my friend Chanel stopped by for tea — it’s been such a lovely day for me!

Hope you’re doing well, too!

xx. Julia

P.s. If you came across my blog via my ad on Smile + Wave; welcome! Please feel free to leave a comment, I’d love to meet you!

One of my all time favourite annual events (right up there with Thanksgiving + the 4th of July!) is the summertime Picnic Music + Arts Festival!

SO. MUCH. FUN.

All handmade and vintage, it’s essentially Etsy in a park. Speaking of Etsy, this seller had a booth, and I can honestly tell you that her work is just as beautiful and perfect in person as it is in her photographs. I was thoroughly impressed.

Here are some of my other favourite displays, booths, and shots from our quick little visit:

I so wish that we could have spent more time! There was so much going on in the city between this and another festival, and the weather was gorgeous, but Ryan had to work and we had no money to spend.

Every year we say we’re going to plan better next year, ha! We’ll see how things are when the Winter Picnic rolls around.

Have a lovely afternoon!

I stumbled upon these fancy little floral napkins about a month ago in a thrift shop. They were .99 cents for each set of two…I bought all five sets. (How could I resist?)

I wanted to display them nicely so this pretty vintage pattern didn’t have to hide away any more (as I’m sure it was doing in someone’s Grandmother’s attic for decades), so I cinched a few together with these little napkin holders that I made from fabric scraps and vintage buttons!

Would you care for some tea?

Well, no, not actually. But I was mentioned in two great blogs this week!

First, I wrote another post for the Goodwill blog which went live on Monday. It’s all about upcycling and features the super cute pink polka dot dress that I remade and just sold!

And second, Laura and Nate of Fore Front Fashion came to my house a few weeks ago to see and talk about my shop! They were both super sweet and I’m really excited to keep tabs on their blog. It’s definitely the only street style blog for my little city, and it sounds like they may have some other fantastic ventures up their sleeve for the future. Have a peek at the write-up they did about me by clicking right here!

Now I’m off to do some sewing!

I’m so excited about this little woodland friend chart! It was requested to match this fabric, and I was so happy to oblige.

I’m just delighted with how it turned out, and I’m thinking about making another just like it for my shop.

What do you think?

If you’re anything like me, you love every single thing that Anthropologie has for sale, but can’t afford even half of it.

But, if you’re even more like me, you’re willing to try a little harder than most to make these things yourself. So, I give you a great DIY tutorial to stitch a ruffle shower curtain yourself pulled together by Leanne of Elle Apparel via the blog A Little Lovely.

This DIY will bring a little colour into that oh-so-drab bathroom of yours!

Happy stitching!

Meet Bess!

I believe it’s about time that you met Bess.

As far as machine sewing goes, I’m not super experienced. But Bess has helped me learn and grow to the advanced-beginner level that I have now achieved.

In fact, this is the only machine I’ve ever worked on.

It has an extra special place in my heart because it is one of two twin machines that my Grandmother purchased. She bought one for herself and one for my Mom.

Now that she’s in a nursing home, hers has been passed on to me. It’s not super fancy, but it does everything that I need it to. Plus, there’s a distinct attic-y scent that reminds me of when my Mom and my aunt first taught me to use Bess (or her sister?) in sixth grade.

I’ve mostly always been a hand-stitcher, preferring the intimacy between fabric and fingers that somehow felt more genuine to me (maybe I just watched too much Little House on the Prairie when I was little). But I’ve enjoyed my time sitting with Bess and listening to her click away as I press the pedal. She follows instructions quite well although I’m sure she has more to teach me than I do to teach her.

She’s pleased to meet you :)

xx. Julia
