Ryan + I attended a mix cd party last night!

Each person brought a mix that they made and plopped it down with the rest on the coffee table in the center of the party. Throughout the night the cds were played and when you left you got to take one home with you! Our brilliant friend David concocted the idea and along with his two lovely roommates, Samantha + Chelsea, he hosted the lively event.

Not only did we have a blast making our mixes { can you guess which one in the picture is mine + which is Ryan’s? }, but we also got to take home two brand new cds! I can’t wait to pop them in while we drive around with the windows down in this gorgeous spring-like weather!

Have a wonderful day, friends!

I’m not sure if I’ve ever had a favourite actress.

But recently I’ve been really charmed by Shirley MacLaine’s older films. Somewhere between her pixie perfect looks, her sweet + subtle sound, and the way she can be both goofy and graceful is just so inspiring! She plays a convincing role whether she’s a nun or a harlot and her spunk is so refreshing. It’s fantastic to see an actress who doesn’t take herself too seriously.

She said in one interview that she is “just desperately in love with people”. That she loves knowing “what they’re feeling…what bothers them”, and trying to make things better for them. I love that perspective!

Who is your favourite actor or actress?

I love, love, love this song.

I mean, how could I not? It’s so much fun!  I’m considering listening to this on repeat while I clean up the house today…aaaand, you should, too. {I won’t tell, if you don’t!}

Have a lovely afternoon!

Paint By Numbers, how can you go wrong?

Well, clearly it’s not the best, most profound, or most skillful art, but there is something about the aesthetic of a good ol’ paint by numbers painting that I find really appealing. Maybe it’s the muted colour pallet that they all seem to have, or the blotchiness of the simplified image, or the fact that someone somewhere along the line painstakingly (ha!) painted each and every section oh so carefully — I’m not sure –, but something about them just makes me fall in love.

Call me silly all you want, I’m still scouring all of my favourite thrift stores in search of the perfect paint by numbers to place on my walls. Just you wait, it’ll be darling.

Happy Wednesday!

Have you joined Pinterest yet?

I love this website. It’s really brilliant. While browsing the internet, if you see a beautiful image that inspires you, you can “pin” it to your pinboards with a simple click! Organize your pinboards so the images you pin are categorized, and come back to the boards when you’re ready to utilize that inspiration.

Each image that you pin retains its link back to the original place where you found it, so you know who to credit for the source, + if you need more information it’s really quite simple to find. This website is ideal for planning parties, room redecoration, or style inspiration. I’ve got so many boards going, you’ll have to see the possibilities for yourself!

A lot of the boards I follow {oh yeah, you follow other people’s boards, too!} often pin DIY tutorials. It’s so nice to see what other people are making, + pin the instructions for myself for later use.

It’s currently invite only, but I would be happy to send you an invite if you leave your email below. I’ve started looking at my pinboards for style + hair help in the morning, ha! It helps me get more out of my day because I browse in my time off, save the images I like, then quickly pull them up in the morning when I’m limited on time!

If you decide to join, don’t forget to follow me!

Although I don’t have cable, I am so enamored by ABC’s new show Pan Am.

The culture of the Jet Age is so interesting to me! The success driven ladies that are represented by this TV show were braving society’s expected role for them by breaking out of the pattern that their mothers and grandmothers had fallen into, in order to travel the globe!

Mid-century America was an entirely different world from that in which we are living now. And that may be in part thanks to the Pan Am stewardesses and women like them who joined the workforce and paved the way for ladies like me. It’s all so fascinating!

Plus, the twists that characters Bridget + Kate bring into the show with their secret double lives — I won’t spoil it if you’ve not yet seen the show — is enough to draw in male viewers (Ryan watches with me willingly)!

So basically the plot is great, the characters are fascinating, and oh-my-gosh, the set design + costuming are incredible! All of their clothes are perfectly stylish, and did you see the Cameron sisters’ parents’ house? Holy dream come true! I gushed when that gorgeous mid-century ranch came in. I couldn’t help but notice, too, that their Pan Am weekender bags are the same style as mine!

Then, on top of all of that, Christina Ricci is a main character! I grew up loving her in Now + Then and Casper, so it’s really refreshing to see something new from her (even if she does look way too thin).

You can watch the show on Sundays at 10 pm on ABC, or on ABC.com or Hulu!

Catch up now if you haven’t seen it yet. You won’t regret it!

I didn’t want you to miss out on such an exciting + inspiring show!

I’ve done the hair bow (a la Gaga) before, but never like this!

A couple of years ago I was really into hair bows. It was fun + festive, but I wish I had thought of the above option on my own. This way is just as adorable, and much less eye catching than the gigantic Minnie Mouse type that I had been doing.

From here on out, this will be the bow I go for! You can find out how to style it yourself by clicking this link. Thanks for sharing, Elsie + Katie!

Give it a try for yourself!

I’m seeing a lot of mixed prints these days, which makes me really excited!

I love the way such different pieces work together. My two favourites; stripes and plaids. This could partially be because the two prints are exemplary of fall. Until this autumn, I don’t think I’ve ever intentionally mixed my patterns before. Of course, I may have gone a bit liberal with the prints when I was younger, but I think my style is looking a little better these days (if you knew me then, you’re probably chuckling at the thought of my “style” in the past). Don’t feel badly, it’s certainly well deserved.

What do you think of mixed patterns + prints? Do you have any favourite combinations?

You’ve most likely already seen this video, but just in case you haven’t I wanted to pass it along.

It’s so interesting to see how style, music, and dance have evolved over the last hundred years, and I think this video captures each decade very well. If you’ll notice, the man even goes off to war for a bit in the ’40s, and the lady becomes a Riveter! Someone did a lot of hard work to pull this piece together.

Hope you enjoyed it!
