Countdown ’til shop reopening: 1 day!

I love offering freebies! So I’m happy to announce all of the cool stuff that you’ll get in your package if you decide to buy something from my shop. These first few items are the things that every purchase will come with, and if you continue to scroll down you’ll see what you could get for free if you are one of the first five sales after my shop reopens tomorrow! Every buyer can expect:

The discount is so when you come back again, you’ll be rewarded for continuing to support my shop. The snapshots are mostly photos that I’ve taken, but there are a couple of my family members in the ’30s, ’40s, and ’50s that might be included in your package! As for the music, I love sharing the songs that Ryan writes, so I’ll send a link to you if you support my shop, and you’ll be able to download a pretty little ukulele or a soft guitar song. I’ll be making an announcement here on the blog, on twitter, and on facebook the second my shop doors open, so keep your eyes peeled tomorrow for the shop reopening! Here’s what you’ll get if you’re one of the first five sales:

Plenty to look forward to, huh? What a happy little package these would make. I can’t wait to start sending them out. Less than 24 hours until I’ll be able to!

See you then!

If, for some reason, The Merchant Company was too far away for you…

my bow ties are now also available at Find! I’ve been pumpin’ these puppies out like it’s my job {oh, wait, it sort of is.} and I’m so happy to make them available to even more people! If you’re not in Portland, hang in there — I’ll have even more varieties in my Etsy shop when it reopens in May than elsewhere in this city.

One of the new materials that I used for this batch was with organic gingham fabric from Worthy Goods Textile. I can’t wait to show you some photos once it’s listed in my Etsy shop, but if you’d like to get a peek ahead of time you’d better pop into Find! It may be worth your while to stop in anyway if you are in the area. I was poking around the racks yesterday after dropping off my ties, and ended up taking two new things home. That place is absolutely irresistible, I tell you!

Happy Saturday!

Snapshots from our week:

highlights

My Dad’s birthday was last week and we got a chance to go home for a visit on Saturday. It was fantastic to see my parents, siblings, and their families. It was the first time we had all been together since Thanksgiving { Mom was snapping photos, of course } ! Ryan made a birthday beer for my Dad to enjoy, and everyone laughed a lot while we sat around in the living room together sans TV, computers, + other electronic distractions. Now that’s what life’s about. My brother even brought up an imaginary friend that I had when I was about three that the rest of us had completely forgotten about! It was so neat to have that old familiar feeling again.

While we were home, Ryan + I opened up our camp so we could borrow some items to use for our upcoming ModSwap. My family’s cabin has housed Smith family members since my Grandfather { that’s him in the canoe! } built it in 1953. But with no insulation it’s only useable during the summer months. Stepping inside during the winter always feels strange + sad. I’m immediately flooded with happy warm weather memories and somehow feel guilty for not keeping it toasty warm in the winter, too.

This week so many bow ties were made in my little studio and I’m officially a seller at the Merchant Company! I’ve been a seamstress there since this fall, but have never displayed my own designs until I brought some in on Tuesday — so exciting! Now I’m working on bulking up my stock, so my Grandmother’s sewing machine has never been busier! If you’re in the Portland area stop in to have a look at my wares! I’m so happy to finally have my own little section, tiny as it may be.

TGIF, friends!

Snapshots from our week:

This week had flowers, bow ties, and breakfast in bed. A lovely way to spend the first of the winter-cold days we’ve been having this year. Yesterday we got two feet of snow during the day! People went to work in the morning innocently enough, and emerged from their jobs to find cars half disappeared beneath the powder.

I happened to peek out the window around 5 pm to check on the status of the snow and saw someone struggling to unbury their car. Just up the street from him, another man was standing in the road just staring at his in frustration. I wasn’t sure quite what he was doing until he kicked the snow angrily with his foot and I realized he was overwhelmed at being trapped in.

Ryan and I grabbed our shovels and each picked a car. Twenty minutes later and they had both wiggled their ways out of that snowy mess — off toward their cozy homes! It was a fantastic way to end the week. Hope your week was just as nice.

Onward to the weekend!

It’s been awhile since I’ve updated my shop!

The holidays pretty much cleaned me out, so it was definitely time for some new stuff. Here’s what I’ve added:

A houndstooth bow tie for your most dapper of gentlemen friends!

Goldenrod hanky + goldenrod bow tie — a handsome set!

Fire King round baking dish in the Blue Heaven pattern

I have even more to share that I’ve finished and photographed, but are not quite ready to list yet. I’m back on track as far as my making is concerned, so expect more from me next week { these are just teasers } ! I hope you’re all doing exceedingly well, and that you have a chance to peek into my shop sometime soon!

Have a lovely night!

I’ve been making a lot of bow ties lately.

So, naturally, I had to come up with a way to display them. The modern gentleman that I envision will most like my ties probably also likes the rustic aesthetic { if he’s anything like Ryan + friends }. Thus, the twig bow tie holder is born!

It was so easy to make this — took me about 15 minutes. I stopped by the park to gather up some sticks, got my hot glue gun ready with plenty of spare glue sticks, and borrowed Ryan’s pocket knife to use the saw option. Once I was set up at the table with some newspaper under my work space, the process was easy!

I cut all of the sticks up into equal lengths with the saw, then starting with the biggest ones I hot glued them together. I added more and more to the outside until I had used up all of my sticks and was satisfied with the size. The stick bundle on its own could be a neat display piece if you wrapped a length of twine or burlap around part of it. I bet you could even fit a tea light in the top if you cut the middle sticks a half inch or so shorter than the rest!

Ties will be up in my shop this week for purchase if you have someone in mind! I’ve given them out to a few of our friends here, and the reactions have been very gratifying.

See you again tomorrow!

If given the choice to go out or stay in…

I’d much rather stay in. I always have fun when I do go out, but I’m not much of a socialite. My ideal day consists of cuddling with kitties, reading lots of books, and drinking so much coffee that I’m actually excited to clean. So, today was a good day.

Here’s what we wore:

If you hadn’t already noticed, Hugo is a cuddler. I mean, he cuddles and purrs as much as he breathes { he is currently lying across the tops of my forearms as I type — my hands stick out from underneath his fur trying to reach the keys }.

Even if we’re standing up he wants to cuddle. Just ask Ryan…

Yes, I said it! There will be bowties like this one available for purchase in my shop shortly! I stuffed this one in his stocking for Christmas and it was such a hit that I’ll definitely be replicating it. I plan on filling up my “For the Mr.” section with a couple of different man-items!

So that’s it. We stay home to cuddle our cats, and to make and wear bow ties. But sometimes still dress up { it’s more fun that way }.

I hope you’re having a wonderful day!

xx.
