Halloween is approaching fast!

And it has certainly been on my mind. This year, as much as I dislike certain aspects of our apartment, I really love its location. We’re just outside the tiny center of town – only about a minute’s walk from everything – so I’m really crossing my fingers that we’ll have a little trick-or-treat traffic. I’ve got my candy display all ready to go, and I came up with some ideas for turning thrifted finds into candy-carriers on the big night. Now all I need is my costume! I have some ideas, but really better get crackin’. I have been planning on sewing my dress myself – we’ll see how that goes!

What will you be for Halloween?

Our temperatures are starting to drop!

You know what that means! Ryan and I piled on our fall flannels the other day to scope out a potential wedding venue! We’ve had several ideas so far for venues and themes and I am so, so excited to start making some serious decisions. But right now we’re just enjoying this great excuse to mosey around some really beautiful places we’ve never been before!Traipsing around farms, camps, and woods is definitely the right occasion for boots and flannels. We weren’t quite sure what to expect while we checked out this area, so Ryan dressed his jeans up a little with a cardigan, and I wore my blazer, too. We didn’t end up meeting the owners of the property on this day, but we were fortunate enough to meet Snow the bunny!

Every season is lovely in New England, but now that summer has melted into fall I’m happy to see apples in wooden crates and to step on crunchy leaves. We weren’t the only ones who were enjoying this little afternoon trip. The lady we spoke with while there told us that our new bunny friend gets super excited for fall. Can’t you tell? Just look at all of those apples she gets to eat!

We think this might be the right place for our reception, lots of trees, mushrooms, and there’s even an airstream trailer (I know, right?)! Of course, the last place we looked at was fantastic, too. We’re feeling inspired by the little details of the natural world. And remembering, as our friend Courtney said, “if we’re married at the end of the day, it’s a good wedding.” Everything will fall into place. ♡

Happy Tuesday,

xx.

Hello, my dears!

As you know, I was away last week for the Goodwill Summer Conference in Miami, Florida! It was hands down one of the best experiences of my life! I got to connect with so many amazing people who value thrift, creativity, and community as much as I do in a city vastly different from anything else I’ve ever seen. It was remarkable! My session was so. much. fun. Jenna Isaacson, Evette Rios, and I chatted about Goodwill, shared our favourite thrifting stories, and sipped sangria with our audience before I presented six easy DIY projects with one good ol’ fashioned thrift store staple: the mason jar. You can check out my post with the project ideas here! More on the trip later in the week…

So happy to be back in the Shire!

Yes, a stash of these darling things. Just waiting for a home.

What’s a girl to do? I bought two pairs. I know you’re wondering why I didn’t just snatch up the whole collection, but two would do just fine for me and allow someone else to find the same excitement that I did. For more pictures {and a hint about where I found these beauties} read the full post that I did for Goodwill Industries of Northern New England!

See you tomorrow :)

Mornin’, dears!

I hope this Saturday morning finds you well! This week I spent a lot of time thrifting for picture frames at Goodwill, coming up ideas for repurposing them, and executing said ideas. I always have so much fun challenging myself to think outside of the box, so I wanted to make sure that I passed along the link for you to see, too! Hopefully this will encourage your creative juices to flow. This month we’ve opened up my decor + DIY blog post to include a photo slideshow tutorial with me giving instruction so the format of the post is a little more extensive than it has been in the past – exciting! Take a peek if you’re interested!

Enjoy your day!

Nothing makes me happier than a successful thrifting haul.

I suppose that statement might be slightly exaggerated, there are some things, but the truth is that I’m almost always on top of the world when I walk out the door of a thrift shop with something in my hand…It’s the thrill of the hunt.

The letter box and kitchen scale have both found new homes in my shop. I’m now able to weigh my packages at home and label them accordingly before carrying them off to the Post Office. And although I’ve already hung this adorable organizer, I’m still not sure what function it will serve! I’m a very messy person, though, so I know I’ll find something that needs sorting soon enough.

Each item in this collection is a delight. My two little nesting pots are super adorable – matching pieces with a lid to share. They’re perfect! Now if only Ryan + I could get our food blog launched we’d have a reason to put them to good use!

Oh, yes, and the bureau – ideal, no? We found our new favourite shop ever on a recent day off thrifting trip and I’ll be sure to return again soon! The whole store was curated exactly how I’d like my home to be and I was drooling before I even set foot in the door!

What are your recent scores?

I always like to pass along links to my Goodwill posts,

just in case you missed them. And another of my posts went live yesterday! So, if you are as inspired by office supplies as I am, you may want to take a look at this one. I share a couple of cute ideas of how you can use a clipboard at home for not-so-official tasks and spruce up some wall space in the process!

Hope you’re well!

Yesterday was a big day for me!

My first monthly post for the Goodwill Industries International blog went live! I’ve been so, so excited about being a contributing writer for their blog because this organization is something that I truly believe in. If you didn’t know, I’ve been working for Goodwill Industries of Northern New England for the past three years and I’ve seen first hand how this wonderful company has not only changed the lives of those in need, but in some cases they’ve even made life possible.

I’m very fortunate to have a lot of opportunities in my life, but some people aren’t so lucky. They may lack the funds or the training to get a suitable home or occupation and without Goodwill they would be left in a very difficult situation. However, through funding from the Goodwill retail stores {if you’ve ever purchased something there then you’ve helped!} I have had the pleasure of watching individuals with disabilities overcome their challenges by receiving training and assistance in good jobs, and finding safe homes. That’s right, the money you spend at Goodwill doesn’t leave your community, it gets reinvested right back into it!

It’s in these funded group homes that I have spent so much of my time, so I know from first hand experience that without Goodwill, a stable life for some individuals would just not be possible. I was a little sad that by moving I would be leaving behind all of the wonderful people that I’ve met while working here, but since I’ll be blogging for them, I guess I’m sort of still in the family. Check out my most recent post for ideas about how you can decorate your home with books thrifted from Goodwill, and make sure you support your local community by looking in their retail stores first whenever you find that you’re in need of something.

Have a fantastic day!

Today I spent a little time getting all gussied up!

I pulled together a really classy outfit, rouged my lips, and chignoned my hair – then sat down at my computer and didn’t leave the house. It’s all good, though! I was working on a guest post for Goodwill Industries of Northern New England based around the ever-applicable Little Black Dress. The post will go live next Tuesday in preparation for a formal affair at the Portland Club on Thursday, April 26th! You can join me there by purchasing tickets on their website right now! The proceeds will go toward Goodwill’s Workforce Solutions program which helps people find steady jobs and learn new skills. I’ve seen it work and can vouch for the importance of this program. It’s really something I believe in! Let’s raise some money together and support our community.

Spread the word – it’ll be such a fun night and a great cause!

xx.
