Evidence of the move is still scattered around our apartment.

We’ve been here for a couple of weeks and piles here and there of random books, boxes, and other things are still present. Moving to a new place is both exciting and intimidating. One gets to reinvent their living situation, decide precisely where each and every little thing that they own will go, but there are always those last few boxes that remain in the middle of the floor {in our case} or tucked away in a corner for an obnoxious matter of time.

I am so excited to share posts with you about the newly decorated rooms that we occupy…just as soon as they’re done. Right now we still have plenty of work to do, so it won’t be for a bit. But so far I like the look of these two little corners of the apartment – Ryan’s bureau and our “Hemingway” corner {complete with a writing desk, typewriter, globe, and displayed antlers.}

How long does it take you to get all settled in after a move?

Snapshots from our week:

| highlights |

My Dad’s birthday was last week and we got a chance to go home for a visit on Saturday. It was fantastic to see my parents, siblings, and their families. It was the first time we had all been together since Thanksgiving { Mom was snapping photos, of course } ! Ryan made a birthday beer for my Dad to enjoy, and everyone laughed a lot while we sat around in the living room together sans TV, computers, + other electronic distractions. Now that’s what life’s about. My brother even brought up an imaginary friend that I had when I was about three that the rest of us had completely forgotten about! It was so neat to have that old familiar feeling again.

While we were home, Ryan + I opened up our camp so we could borrow some items to use for our upcoming ModSwap. My family’s cabin has housed Smith family members since my Grandfather { that’s him in the canoe! } built it in 1953. But with no insulation it’s only useable during the summer months. Stepping inside during the winter always feels strange + sad. I’m immediately flooded with happy warm weather memories and somehow feel guilty for not keeping it toasty warm in the winter, too.

This week so many bow ties were made in my little studio and I’m officially a seller at the Merchant Company! I’ve been a seamstress there since this fall, but have never displayed my own designs until I brought some in on Tuesday — so exciting! Now I’m working on bulking up my stock, so my Grandmother’s sewing machine has never been busier! If you’re in the Portland area stop in to have a look at my wares! I’m so happy to finally have my own little section, tiny as it may be.

TGIF, friends!

Paint By Numbers, how can you go wrong?

Well, clearly it’s not the best, most profound, or most skillful art, but there is something about the aesthetic of a good ol’ paint by numbers painting that I find really appealing. Maybe it’s the muted colour pallet that they all seem to have, or the blotchiness of the simplified image, or the fact that someone somewhere along the line painstakingly (ha!) painted each and every section oh so carefully — I’m not sure –, but something about them just makes me fall in love.

Call me silly all you want, I’m still scouring all of my favourite thrift stores in search of the perfect paint by numbers to place on my walls. Just you wait, it’ll be darling.

Happy Wednesday!
