Snapshots from our week:

I’ve got big, big plans brewing in my head regarding both my Etsy shop and my spot at the Merchant Company. Spring always has me inspired, and although it’s still teasing us with its hide-and-seek games, I’m feeling the need to reassess and redo so much in my life. Tomorrow I’ll make a huge shop announcement – the biggest I’ve ever considered — and I’ll be guiding myself through two Red Velvet E-courses in the next couple of months in an effort to better develop my dreams and bring them to life. Expect big things!

At my day job I’ve been helping out a client of mine in cleaning her apartment. So far we’ve donated about eight gigantic totes full of stuff to Goodwill as well as throwing out just as many bags of trash and recycling. Combing through all of her belongings, we’ve come across several old photographs of lost family members and friends. It’s an interesting feeling to see someone else touched by a striking memory that only they can understand.

While driving the other day, Ryan found an old polaroid of my friend Claire taken during one of the best summers of my life, and I knew just how he must have felt looking at me, looking at her. What a wonderful thing memories are.

Happy Friday!

Snapshots from our week:

Last Saturday I thrifted with Chelsea + Samantha. I found this fun little hat { that I can’t stop wearing } and the next day a bird pooped on it. Ryan tells me this is good luck. I beg to differ.

We went on our first multiple couple date skipping right over a double date to a triple date! We met up at Novare Res for their Valentine’s Day beer + chocolate pairing, then came back up to our house for board games. I always really love walking around the city in jovial groups like we did on that night. It was, coincidentally, the night before Valentine’s Day, so we were keeping our eyes peeled for the bandit. We may actually have passed him { or her } unwittingly, we’re not sure. But we did happen to see the giant heart pictured hanging from the WCSH6 building.

On the 14th, it was heart pancakes for breakfast, heart gawking around town, then we each picked out a new album at the record store. For dinner I cooked since he does nearly all of our cooking and I wanted to give him a break. We had a cozy night in watching Anonymous and soaking our feet.

Today I heard the very first spring bird of the season. The temperature was 45 degrees fahrenheit, and I’m worried that crocuses are going to start accidentally popping up only to be frozen again before spring comes. It certainly was a nice thought, though, to hear the sounds of warmer weather and feel a warmer breeze. Spring is such a lovely season.

Happy Friday, all.

With digital photography, displaying photos can be difficult.

In the old days, you couldn’t see your photos until they’d been developed and printed. You’d pick them up in a physical, tangible form, and they’d be ready to slip into a frame. But now we take so many photos so often — even just with our cell phones — that it seems like a chore to have them all printed.

Elsie just made a post about how she displays her instagram photos, and I was inspired to share mine with you. You may have noticed it in my living room tour post, but I wanted to show it again with greater emphasis in this light. Maybe I’ll inspire you to print out and display some of yours!

I’d highly suggest purchasing a photo printer or putting one on a wish list. My parents gave me one for my birthday 5 or 6 years ago and it’s still working perfectly! I find that I use it often to make presents for people, to update my photo albums, or to make displays like this one in my home. It’s a fantastic investment that you’ll not be sorry you made.

But, if purchasing one doesn’t sound like the right move for you, you could always order prints online like Elsie does. This is a faster and easier method if you have the money to invest and the patience to wait for your pretty pictures to arrive! Once you have them, find a great way to display your memories and don’t let them just sit somewhere on an old hard drive or disappear into the abyss of the digital world!

My display is super easy. It probably took me only ten minutes to hang — a little bit longer for the photos to print. I have a setting on my printer where I can size each photo two or four per page so they’re smaller and this is what I did for the polaroid look. After they were all printed, I taped them to baker’s twine, then taped the baker’s twine to the wall with masking tape. Masking tape is strong and doesn’t damage the paint underneath. I used four pieces { one in each corner } on the back of the top three photos, then I added one or two pieces to the backs of every second photo hanging in each string.

I’ve noticed that this display is one of the first things that my guests see when they enter, and it’s a fun way for me to show my favourite vintage images of my family along side recent memories that Ryan + I have made! If you decide to make a photo cascade like mine { or another similar display } I’d love to see what you come up with! Good luck + have fun preserving those memories!

See you tomorrow!

xx.
