If you’re not sick of me talking about the Swap yet…

I wanted to pass on a link to my tips list! I had so much fun hosting my swap, and encourage all of you to try it out on your own. It can be intimidating, but if you co-host with a friend or two, you’re certain to find success. And, taking a peek at my very thorough list of tips wouldn’t hurt either. So, stop on over at the Goodwill blog to check it out!

Also of note, my birthday is just around the corner! March 14th is going to be super special because I want to celebrate with all of you! I have a giveaway planned that will have some lucky commenters waiting patiently at their mailboxes for a package from me! Yep, that’s right — I’m going to be giving away gifts as a thank you for being my reader { because I pretty much think birthdays are the coolest things + can’t wait to share}.

Have a wonderful Saturday!

xx.

P.s. Have you ever hosted a clothing swap? Do you have advice to add to the list? I’d love to hear all about it in the comments below!

Here are more details from my swapping event:

The swap went off without a hitch! Our guests started arriving around 7 pm with bags full of clothing and accessories that they no longer wanted for themselves. These were pieces that either didn’t fit properly, weren’t worn very often, or had been loved a lot by their previous owners but were now ready for a change. With such a stylish crowd, there were plenty of gems ready to find new homes and I think everyone left happy at the end of the night. ModCloth sent a dress, a top, and a jacket to contribute, as well as two fantastic necklaces – all brand new – and I found myself drooling over several pairs of shoes that came in with our attendees.

While the bulk of the swappers sat down in the living room to enjoy some kettle corn, muddy buddies, cookies, and cocktails, both of us Julias went into the swap room { aka. my bedroom } to sort through the mounds of clothing. As we sorted, we could hear laughter and conversation pouring out of the living room along with the playlist that I created for the event.  I was really nervous since it was my first time hosting a swap, but when I heard those giggles I couldn’t help but smile.

In keeping with our mid-century camping theme, we organized each category of clothing — pants, tops, menswear, etc. —  into vintage suitcases and labeled them with brown paper and twine. We hung dresses and jackets on the rolling rack that Ryan and I made as one of our Valentine’s Day activities. Then only moments into the swapping action, ready-to-be-loved clothing was excitedly scattered about atop our Pendleton-esque wool blanket, and swappers were falling in love with new { to them } finds.

When we all had filled our totes to the brim, we sat down again in the living room for round two of snacks and drinks, and gabbed about our new swap scores. I had made some peter pan collars, girl scout ties, and even a scalloped collar to give away as free swag to my guests and this was the time to hand them out. There is nothing more satisfying that a full belly, good company, and a bag full of newly acquired clothing to style.

Over all, it was a wonderful night. The guys didn’t really seem as into it as us ladies  { we did have a small section for men! }, but that was fine because we needed all the space we could get for trying things on, stashing our already filled bags { as we went back in for more }, and tossing the pieces we had each decided against. Michelle has already done a write-up on the event for Swap.com and one on her own blog, as well! And Ashley showed off her finds, too! Make sure you have a peek at their perspectives before you dash away to your other favourite internet spots.

Would you host your own clothing swap?

xx.

P.s. Special thanks to ModCloth and Swap.com for sponsoring the event! It was a truly fantastic opportunity!

I have so much to share!

Last night was such a thrill! Perhaps you remember my mentioning the ModSwap that I was selected for months ago. My friend Brittan and I were chosen by ModCloth and Swap.com to co-host a sponsored clothing swap for our friends. They were so generous to send us a box of goodies that we gave away as free swag to our guests as well as several brand new ModCloth items to include in the swap. I felt so lucky and excited to have this opportunity!

Unfortunately, Brittan had to step back from hosting due to other circumstances so Ryan stepped up to the plate and helped me plan the event, then my very best friend { the other Julia } made the trip up to Maine to assist as well. The event went swimmingly and I couldn’t have been happier with the turn out.

It was an intimate affair since we only have a one bedroom apartment, but I really enjoyed the company and the atmosphere. Ashley of the Portland based blog Sweet William and Michelle who manages the Goodwill of Northern New England blog were able to attend along with some of my closest friends. We provided drinks including a special cocktail that our chef friend Kaylon created just for the event. Several guests brought snacks to share and we set the stage to our Mid-Century Camping theme, then got swapping! Tomorrow I hope to share more photos and details of the event in hopes that I inspire you to organize a clothing swap in your area!

Have a lovely evening, friends!

Months ago, ModCloth selected me to co-host a clothing swap!

For several reasons, I haven’t been able to establish solid plans for hosting until now, so I’m just starting to get really excited about the details of the event. They sent a box of goodies to help me get started including several brand new ModCloth pieces { like the necklace in the photos } ! The lovely lady I was going to co-host with isn’t able to participate any longer, so Ryan stepped in to help out. Since we’re snowed in together today, it seemed like the perfect day to sit down and make some to-do lists to ensure that our swap is special.

We’ve got the theme + a date picked out, a detailed list of decor + party favours, and the invitations are ready to be sent. I’m getting so excited that I just had to share! Things are starting to come together and my imagination is running wild with visions of the swap itself. I’m sure that everyone will go home with some truly fantastic finds.

February 21st can’t come soon enough!

xx.

P.s. Yes, that necklace designed by miss james of bleubird vintage is included in the swap! Thanks, ModCloth!

I’ve got my layers + lace. I’m clearly ready for Christmas parties.

And if New England should decide it will snow, I’ll just hop inside quickly to switch into boots. I’ll throw a scarf around my neck, gloves on my paws, and a hat on my head — this is my plan.

Winter, bring it on.

Happy First Friday!

Yesterday’s SWAPmaine event was such a success!

Chelsea + I arrived early to help out, + we met some lovely new people. I had never realized how many fashion bloggers there are here in Portland, but yesterday it seemed like maybe we were all in one place. It was such a stylish group of ladies who hosted the event! I am so happy that I was able to be a part of it.

I had so much fun sorting through all of those generous donations. I especially loved knowing that every piece would either find a happy new home, or be donated to Goodwill! So, if you participated in the event, you deserve a round of applause {as well as all of that excellent new clothing you took home}!

I know you’re just dying to see what I scooped up, so here you go.

My finds from the day:

I also snagged the darling little brooch pictured below, + a pair of warm wooly tights {that I’ll wear as soon as they’re washed, seeing as it’s currently snowing…}

I made out pretty well, huh?

So I’ve got this big huge basket of clothing…

I don’t want it anymore, it’s all yours. It’ll be waiting for you this Saturday, at the East End School, from Noon – 3 pm. Oh yeah, and hundreds of other people will be dropping off their stuff, too. It’s called SWAPmaine.

You can sift through all of that clothing, for free, and take home whatever you want. Just show up the night before between 5 pm + 6 pm to drop off the clothes that you don’t want anymore. Or, come in the morning with your clothing + something delicious for Chelsea + I to eat while I sort through all of the stuff that you’ve dropped off.

If you don’t bring your clothing the night before, or in the morning with a treat, you’ll have to pay to get in. But you don’t have to pay much, + you’ll definitely get way more than what you pay for. Really I just want your delicious baked goods. So that’s what I’m suggesting you do.

Anywho, will I see you there?

xx.

P.s. Brownies are my fave.

Exciting news, Mainers! SWAPmaine is back for round 2!

These are some of the amazing finds that I scored for free at the first ever SWAPmaine event that was held this spring. I’m pleased to announce that the organizers have decided to host another free clothing swap this fall. The details are a bit different this time, so make sure to check out their blog by clicking this link!

Now get sorting! You’ve got time to sift through all of your clothes and decide what stays and what goes!

xx.
